PLX's Beam Steering Technology

PLX Beam Steering Technology delivers complete, cutting edge laser scanning systems for target tracking and metrology applications.

By combining Micro-ElectroMechanical scanning mirrors (MEMS) with the PLX Monolithic Optical Structure Technology™ (M.O.S.T.) PLX can deliver precision and performance that continues to perform in the harshest operating conditions.

PLX technology can be permanently embedded into systems to provide a real-time, closed-loop control system that achieves higher precision with minimal or no calibration.

For manufacturing applications, this results in reduced waste, reduced down-time, and reduced set-up costs.

For targeting applications, this results in improved tracking of fast moving targets at long and short range, in a smaller, lighter, lower power unit.

The use of low cost MEMS for high precision scanning was proven by the work done by Reflex Imaging, now part of PLX Inc, Working closely with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) at the University of Sheffield, UK, scanning mirrors were demonstrated to achieve an order of magnitude improvement in precision over comparable conventional systems. This opened up the potential of using laser-based metrology to industries that currently do not use it due to price and complexity.
